The first Vocab@ conference was hosted here in Wellington in 2013. The next two conferences were in Tokyo, Japan (2016) and Leuven, Belgium (2019). We thought it was time to extend an invitation to Wellington once again. This capital city is home to Te Herenga Waka -​Victoria University of Wellington and a fair few vocabulary enthusiasts. We thought you might like to visit in our summer and perhaps even stay on in the country for bit of a look around. 

Vocabulary research has seen a massive growth in research and in so many areas, such as multiword units, learning through input, factors affecting vocabulary learning, testing, strategies, computer-assisted vocabulary learning, vocabulary learning activities, and psycholinguistic processing. We are keen to hear more about research in all these areas - and more! And in particular, how it might benefit language learners and teachers in all kinds of contexts.

The conference theme is deliberately broad: Applying vocabulary research to practice. We see this theme as a chance to frame vocabulary studies in today’s world, to consider where we are now and to think about where we are going. Our Vocab@Vic 2023 gathering aims at keeping participants up-to-date on current research and practice in vocabulary teaching and learning.
